European Health Insurance Card

The European Health Insurance Card makes it possible to exercise the right to medical aid, enjoyed by all citizens of the Republic of Bulgaria whose health insurance rights have not been suspended, while in the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland. Drugs

If you are bringing prescription drugs, take the relevant prescriptions with you. Do not bring larger quantities than needed for personal use during the trip. Large quantities of drugs could arouse suspicion.

Narcotic drugs

Import and export of narcotic drugs is performed in accordance with the international narcotic drugs trade system, through import and export permits issued by the National Narcotic Drugs Council. That system controls the substances included in Schedules I and II of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and Schedules I, II, III and IV of the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The system applied in Bulgaria corresponds to the provisions of Article 75 of the Schengen Convention, according to which narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances may be transported, if needed for a certain person’s medical treatment, in which case a certificate issued or authenticated by the competent government authority of the state of residence shall be produced when demanded.
